Upgrading is free if you bought Excalibur 5.5 on Dec. 1 or later. Unfortunately I bought mine on November 15th and thus missed the upgrade date by two weeks. Makes me kind of wish that I'd used it a second time... ;-(

Anyway, upgrade page is http://www.classondemand.net/classondemand/vegas-training/excalibur.aspxhere.[/link]

I love Excalibur also, but having to purchase an upgrade just to get a dockable window? I'm not seeing many other new features (okay, Project Inspector, Auto Save, and the new Undo thing). When it went to V. 5, there were tons of new features and Tabs that were very exciting. I know the dockable thing is big, but I'm not sure it's worth the upgrade. Am I missing something?
TheHappyFriar wrote on 1/15/2008, 10:24 AM
dockable is worth 2x the price imho. it's now just like any other vegas dockable thing (scopes, explore, etc). can be used in RT while playing the TL.

300% more awesome then before. :D

Dockable windows, instant access, project inspector, has helped my workflow even further. Scripting has made Vegas great NLE, even better. Now to get my layout reconfigured to not have to scroll down to check the save as default, and access the tools 'below the fold'.

I enjoy the X, but a $70 upgrade for a plug is too much. If it was $50 I would have bought it. Since the upgrade price is the same no matter what version is being upgraded, where's the monetary incentive to stay current?

And yes, I am aware that there is a free upgrade for new users.

Afterall, I am still waiting for Ultimate S3 to add rotation to the photo montage controls. I was told it was being worked on how long ago? (rhetorical)

In addition, Update script to Custom Command is not as easy as it sounds.
Great work Edward !

very good stuff.

Nice! The X helps make me money everyday with Vegas

I am hung up on the price right now. I had Tsunami then 4 then 5 .

5.5 is doing what I need so I think I will wait this one out at $70. Too many other things I need right now.

Woo-hoo! Qualified for the free upgrade! I'm really liking this Custom Control stuff! Now I just need a 3RD monitor to keep track of all my docked windows!

Excellent work, as always, Edward!

Thanks everyone for the comments. To me, working as a Custom Command is a huge improvement allowing scripts to actually be a "part" of Vegas instead of being bolted on the side. Project Inspector and Auto Save are also installed along side Excalibur as well.

The initial version had a problem where it could prematurely expire. I have corrected this issue and have just uploaded a new version. If your copy expired, download and install the version that is there now.

My only complaint is missing the free upgrade date by so little and being in the same upgrade range as people who bought versions years ago.

Does anyone know if v6 fixes the issue with Excalibur screen tabs extending beyond the edges of the computer screen when using Large Fonts (e.g., 120 dpi) in Windows? I found this a huge pain in the you-know-what.

Rob, while I haven't changed anything in relation to that issue, I have made a couple other changes that may cause things to appear slightly differently. However, the short answer is no - it still should be set at the normal instead of "large' setting.

HELP!! I am using Vegas 8a with the Vista Business OS successfully, except when I try to use Excalibur 6. I installed the demo from the jetdv web site and added it as an extension; the app docks and floats, but when I go to any of the tabs every option is grayed out on every screen for each option!! Do I need to just uninstall/reinstall Excalibur, or is it incompatible with Vista altogether? Would upgrading to Vegas 8b help? Please advise, and thank you in advance!

Rich, If you go to the "help" tab, I'm sure they will all read "Expired". Download the version I put out Tuesday evening and it should start working again. If not, e-mail me an we'll figure out what's going on.

Laurence, I've tried to e-mail you twice through this forum with no responses back. Please e-mail me so i can ask you some questions.

I just got your email Edward. For anyone like me, who just missed the cutoff date for the free upgrade, the date has now been moved back to November 10, 2007. To say I am pleased is a complete understatement!

IMHO, the biggest single advantage that Vegas has over competing video editing programs is it's ability to run scripts like Excalibur and Ultimate-S. Want to make a FCP user drool with envy? Just run him through a few of the things you can do with Excalibur and watch his jaw drop! ;-)

PLUS, Laurence, 3rd party input from the likes of Edward PLUS the US2 team too, in making a difference for us. I'll just repeat that - the likes of the individuals to do the work for us outside of SONY. Now, where ELSE does this happen?

It was immediately from Vegas4, that the User Support for this stuff was writ large on the wall. I wanted THEN a window that had me scripts as part of the Vegas interface. OK we HAVE come via USER overlays, but now it IS here.

Strike-through "drool" replace with cough and gag and splutter!

I'm having no luck installing this on a Vista 64 Ultimate system. When I look at the script menu folder, there is a folder created called "Excalibur6, but all that is in this folder are two files: "unins000.dat" and "unins000". Has anyone else got this running on 64 bit Vista?

Same here.

I will try the latest post.

Thanks.

kentwolf, definitely download again and it should work with the current version. If not, e-mail me and we'll figure out what's going on.

Thanks, Ed.

I did just e-mail you.

Thanks much.

My problem seems to have been a simple matter of not reading the manual. I see now that you need to call up the new version as an extension rather than as a script. Looks really cool so far!
Laurence wrote on 1/17/2008, 3:23 PM
OMG, now that I understand it it makes perfect sense! What an absolutely cool way to do things!
