I learned a valuable lesson after hosing a project I've been working on for a few days.
You can't use subclips created in Excalibur (specially I was using "extract good clip" feature with subclip box checked) with GearShift...as it won't recognize them to swap.
GearShift supports subclips so I’m not sure what the problem is. Also, GearShift has it’s own extract good clips method so there is no need to use Excalibur for this. It doesn’t use subclips in the extraction because swapping proxy media requires and 1-to-1 match with HDV media.
The reason GearShift ignores subclips when it swaps is because subclips are not unique to a particular piece of media (i.e., they are not real clips) and therefore don’t need to be swapped. GearShift works on the media pool and swaps the media it finds in the media pool. If that media is assigned to a subclip, the subclip should find the new media. (at least it has in all my testing of subclips and GearShift)
> It wouldn't swap subclips created by Excalibur (didn't even know they were there)....
That’s why I just told you it IGNORES them! Oh it knows they are there alright... and it purposely skips over them! That’s because subclips are related to other media and when it swaps the other media it will be reflected in the subclips as well. So if the subclips were made from an M2T file, when it finds the M2T file and swaps it out for the DV Proxy, the subclips will automatically be associated with the DV proxy. But I have no idea if that is the case because you didn’t answer my question.
