Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation)

I keep getting the "Exception 0xC0000005" error below whenever I highlight a section of the movie to play or "Make Movie". It runs for a few minutes and then it crashes. Sometime right before I get the error, some of the movie segments turn completely red.

Could be a lot of things, including lack of free, contiguous scratch file space on your C drive.

Hard to say without knowing your computer specs and operating system.

I have:

Windows XP Service Pack 3
Pentium 3 CPU 3.2 GHz
1.99 GB RAM

The hard drive got damaged, so I had it replaced about a week ago. I have 222 GB of free space. I tried using a copy of the movie moved from the original hard drive and then I copied the back-up copy from a flash card. Both get this error.

Thanks,
Paul

Download the trial version of Platinum 10 and install it in parallel of your Vegas 8. It won't interfere with your Vegas 8. Using Windows Explorer copy the project file (.vf) into a new .vf file on the same folder (make sure of that, e.g. myproject.vf make a new copy of that file and name it something like my_new_project.vf). Load that new .vf project on Platinum 10 and try to make a movie, or just use my tutorial to render: http://eugenia.queru.com/2007/11/09/exporting-with-vegas-for-vimeo-hd/

If it works without crashing with Platinum 10, upgrade. It's very unlikely that any of us will be able to fix such a crash by giving simple advises.

And if that crash happens because of Vegas' memory leaks, you can't even apply the memory hack that's circulating in this forum, since you only have 2 GBs of RAM. Regardless, I'd suggest you add 1 more GB if your PC has a free memory slot btw. This way you will be able to leave 2 full GBs to Vegas to do its thing, and the Windows kernel will work on the other 1 GB, so there will be plenty for all under normal circumstances. But anyway, for now, just follow the suggestion above.
