When viewing after expanding to 16 x 9 letterbox the fast action scenes develope sharp horizontal lines in the "fast frames" (the frame has what looks like a combination of two frames with shading in between) in the shaded areas which is pretty ugly. Also the noisier scenes have little tiny wormies like "the theory of strings". When viewed in the letterboxed 4 x 3 mode everything is fine. The film was converted originally to Beta SP and then captured to V5 in standard NTSC DV mode. The film was converted to letterboxed 4 x 3. I don't think converting 4 x 3 to 16 x 9 is a very good idea seeing what those bigger pixels do. I tried the reduce interlace flicker, resample, and velocity changes in different combinations but there was no effect. It would seem to me that just plain zooming the tv would work better.
