Expanding Luminance of a Very dull/flat Scene

Should I dynamically expand a flat/dull scene, leave it flat and dull or ditch it?

The scene is a white faced clock on a cream wall all in shadow and the scopes show a luminance range of only 20% to 50%. I have used "Sony levels" to expand the histogram but it has become grainy and looks bad. With such a narrow range of luminance is there any way that Vegas satisfactorily expand it to look natural or is a scene to ditch?

After you expand it throw the Mike Crash Dynamic noise filter at it to remove the grain. You will crap your pants.

Yup, I've been doing the same thing with some of my family films shot with a gs250 in some very low light at times and Mike Crash's filter set at 3 or 4 has done wonders to minimize the noise.
