Expert Needed - Ideal Settings - Sl Show

What I would like to do is blow away my family for Christmas with a family slide show.

I would like to provide the best quality photo slide show. I would like to avoid burning to DVD and showing on a TV set if that would degrade the quality of the hi - res photos.

1. My photos average around 2015 x 1512 (JPG). Does multiple saves continue to compress my photos rendering them "fuzzy" after a few saves?
2. I could connect my computer directly (DVI) to a video output device (possibly even 1080P) or a projecter (XGA or maybe UXGA).
3. Would like to do some pan and scan but if it degrades quality then could opt not to do that. Does putting down special effects on photos (except transitions) affect the final output the photo?
4. Audio - typical christmas type songs 128 Kb/s. Don't think that will be a problem.

In Sony Vegas Movie 7 or other it seems one can change the project video properties to any sized output device. I guess one thinks of the final output device before they even start putting down photos to get the best output.

My question is there documentation or tutorial that explains each step on creating the best slide show possible. It seems there are explanations covering different aspects of the project but not all in one.

Thank you in advance.

Rich

Take a look at
this string
for some information that should help you. If you do a forum search key word "photo resolution" or something like that you will find a lot more info.

As far as multiple saves - you lost me. A file is a file is a file. Now reformating, resizing - thats something else. VMS will resize to a default setting - off the top of my head I don't remember what it is and I got to run. The only roadblock you may run into is if the photo is too big you may have to resize- but these numbers have changed. The search I suggested should give you the target size.

Even 1080p is going to degrade your pictures - it can't support the same resolution - and you'll probably have a worse problem with a projector. Whether it's enough to matter is something else - most people are happy just to recognise a face on the screen. On the other hand, I think music and movement more than make up for it.

That string was helpful. It seems that it may be best to determine one's output and bump up the resolution for panning / zooming but keeping the high res photos down somewhat.

If my output device is a 1440 x 900 widescreen Samsung LCD monitor then I guess I can just save the slideshow to the hard drive and not save it to DVD thereby losing resolution down to 480 P?

Do you know if there are any matrices that indicates output versus input for photo sizes onto a selected output medium?

The save comment was that I thought when someone saves a JPG each time the photo gets compressed and over time it loses resolution (like J pegging a JPEG).

Thank you.

True - part of me just wants the best - I need to lose the "perfection" mentality.

Thank you.

What you otta do to lose blur is take a calculator and divide the resolution of your photo by about 2 or 3. maybe 4.

then open the video output settings and change it the exact resolution of your video to whatever it is.

Example: say your pictures are 2000x2000 ( 4 megapixels ) , divide that by 2, 3 , or 4. because the photos arent that high-res, i would only divide by, say 2 if you want great resolution. then you would only have 1 Megapixel. (1000x1000). your would then change video output settings to the resolution you end up with. ( in this case, 1000x1000).

*** when changeing properties, REMEMBER TO CLICK APPLY ***

I think what may be happening in your blur, is that the software is squishing your photos together causing blur.

THE THING PEOPLE HARDLY KNOW IS THAT YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOM OUTPUT RESOLUTION!!!! AND TO SAVE THE SETTING, JUST SIMPLE CLICK THE SAVE ICON AT THE TOP RIGHT CORNER!!!

BEST OF LUCK,

Jeff
