explorer.exe errors

After installing Vegas 5 I get this message Explorer.exe-Application Error
The instruction at “0x1d1c8059” referenced memory at “0x00000000”. The memory could not be “read”. I get this message when I "mouse over" video clips that are stored in folders. It is random video clips. I can also change the way the files are displayed from thumbnails to detail or list and it will stop giving me the error messages but if I click on it then it will give me the message. I'm new to Vegas and I do like the program but if I can't fix the problem then I can't afford to spend hours editing only to have the program crash. Vegas seems to run OK but all the error messages go away after I uninstall the program. Very frustrating. Has anyone had this problem?

Do you have a Gigabyte Board? If so they do not like certain brands of memory. Check your CMOS to make sure your memory is being addressed properly and is in automatic. Any little glitch will cause problems.

I am having similar issues, but it has only happened with one file, so far. Are the files you are having problems with created by Vegas?

No, most of them are several months old and was created with Ulead MSP7 or just AVI's. I really haven't done allot of editing with Vegas but the only short mpeg video I did creat works just fine. Strange stuff. Is your error number the same as mine? I was thinking abouit creating another partition and installing XP home and only put Vegas on that with no updates, virus protection or other programs kist to see what happens. Been to Microsofts site and they do have some post there about explorer errors, there is nothing that refers to my problem by number. I will keep on top of this and will update as soon as I know anything.

Do you have Photoshop on your computer? It installs a DLL that is known to cause problems with thumbnails in some applications and sometimes even the Windows Explorer. If you have PS installed, you might want to try workaround option #1 in this Knowledge Base article:

Thanks for the reply. That is what it's doing. I have found that it does it while loading the thumbnail. I do have PS CS installed. Not sure how to get to the option #1 but I'll try. If we can't do the work around then I might uninstall PS. Thanks and I'll post hear again if it fixes the problem.
