Yes, you use the "capture" utility to print to tape. Not very intuitive naming, is it? Somewhat like using the "Start" button in Windows to shut down the PC.
...and if you want to print to a VHS tape and your camcorder supports passthru mode, you can hook your camcorder to the firewire and a VCR to the camcorder video/audio out, and then just disable DV Device Control in the capture utility and you can print straight out to a VHS tape without having to record to DV tape first.
Well, this is strange. I just connected my Canopus ADVC-100 (captures great). However when I plug the output jacks on the unit to the input on a VCR and either print to tape in Vegas OR vidcap, nothing shows in the screen (except L1 - Line 1 for the VCR).
Any1 else have problems with the ADVC-100 or other Canopus devices or am I missing something here? :-\
This should work fine. I don’t have the Canopus ADVC-100 (I have a ADS Pyro A/V Link) but make sure there isn’t a switch to use. I rarely print to VHS tape so I always get it wrong at first. On the AV Link I always put it in analog mode and it doesn’t record anything. Then I remember that analog mode is only for capture and I switch it back to digital mode and it prints to tape just fine. It may be something similar on the ADVC-100? When in doubt, break down and read the instructions. ;-)
aha! let me try digital then. Yep the ADVC 500 does some a/v corrections (stabiliiztion and stuff) I guess on the I/O. I almost bought that one, but decided to try the 100 for a while. There's a manual switch on the front. I'll try that. If it doesn't work, I'll contact Canopus. If it does work, THANK YOU! :-)
