I've been working on a script that exports CMX 3600 EDLs... there are some limitations but I've had decent success bringing the results into AVID. Of course, once the sequence is in AVID, my success with editing tasks has not been as good ;-).
However - I tried using it by importing the EDL into CatDV (a DV organizing tool) which definetely allows CMX 3600 EDL import. But the EDL generated by this script failed.
Error message:
"Failed to import EDL. No clips found."
No, I'm not sure exactly what might be the problem but I'm not too
surprised... CMX 3600 was not originally designed for digital media
clips so there's no standard way of specifying file names... just tape
names. The script just tags file names on as comments.
I tried the CatDV demo but it complains that I don't have Quicktime
for Java... maybe I'll come back to it later but, in the meantime, you
have the script source.
The CatDV developer, Rolf Howarth, contacted me because of that issue. It might be the problem is on the CatDV side. He will work on it to make it work.
