Export video incl. alpha channel

Hi

I have made a show inside Bluff Titler with some snow fall.

I want to use that in a project as owerlay.

The only way I can get the transparency to work is with uncompressed AVI out of bluff titler.

Since this uncompressed is a bid hard to play back, I want to render out another video from Vegas including the alpha channel, and then import this file into my "real" project.

Would this be possible, and which format should I chose?

Thanks in advance.

/Ulf

Avid DNxHD (with alpha enabled) works nicely, and with a modest file size.
I have tested it.

Just been doing some Title Overlays using the QuickTime Animation codec using compression depth of 32 bpp color and preserve the alpha channel.

Put that render BACK into Vegas and activate the ALPHA under Media Properties.

No need for Uncomp. QT is working fine for me in VP12 B394.

Grazie

I use QuickTime 7 at 1920x1080 25p.
Set compressed depth to 32 bpp color.

If you import the rendered clip into Vegas do not forget to to change Media under the clips Properties, Alpha channel to i.e. Straight (unmatted) to inform Vegas to use the alpha channel.

Grrr Graham: again you were faster - by 33 seconds.

Btw. Ulf: rendering such things can be lengthy - it can take 10-15 MINUTES to render some 10 SECONDS animated lower thirds - so do not think your machine needs to be upgraded

I've always exported to .png image sequence w/ alpha. BUT warning, there's a Vegas bug w/ the sequence disappearing after it's re-sized in Pan/Crop and the speed is adjusted.
