Exporting MPEG-4 Audio in QuickTime

Pryach wrote on 5/6/2005, 11:22 AM
The MPEG-4 codecs, for me, seem to be the best way to encode video. Usually if I have an AVI I'll pull it into QuickTime Pro and Export the movie using both the MPEG-4 Video and Audio (avaiable with 3ivx) codecs.

I tried to do the same in Vegas, but for some reason, I can't use the MPEG-4 audio codec. It's not in the list of available codecs.

So what I've been having to do is render the video file into AVI, then opening it up in QTP and exporting it. It works, but it's kinda of a pain.

Does anyone know why I can't use the MPEG-4 Audio codec in Vegas?

for the same reason i guess you can't make a ac3 or high bit rate mp3 avi file either --- it's a mystery ....

3ivx is a good choice though for mpeg4 in QT , you can also make an avi 3ivx file to avoid some of the issues of QT

No idea why you don't get MPEG4 audio in Vegas, but it would definitely be nice.

2- I found that sorenson3 codec is better than apple's MPEG4 codec (which isn't very good). The pro sorenson3 codec is better than the free one.

I just noticed, I don't get a Sorenson3 option for the Audio codec either.

Does anyone else?

audio options seem 'locked' in terms of adding new codecs but you can do audio and video seperate and multiplex in virtualdub

QuickTime doesn't expose all of the codecs to Windows applications that are available when you export a movie from the QuickTime player, even if you have a Pro license. You'll need to render to from Vegas to an intermediate file and export from the QuickTime player to work around this.

all the added VIDEO QT codecs show up in vegas (and i have several of them), but non of the added audio codecs ..

what about the low mp3 bitrate options in avi compression ?

sorenson3 is a video codec. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

2- Satish has a frame server plug-in that may help avoid rendering/exporting an intermediate file.
Google debugmode

3- To encode mp3 for quicktime, you need the fraunhofer mp3 codec or something like that. I've found only certain programs like Cleaner (the old one?) and Sorenson Squeeze can make quicktime files with mp3 audio.
