ExpressFX Equalization error after removal of Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0

Hello,

I have been using all of the Screenblast products for a couple of years and I have upograded to the Vegas Movie Studio 4.0a within the last few months.

I was running a lillte low on space on my hard disk so I decided to remove the ScreenBlast Movie Studio 3.0 using the control panel Add / Remove programs. I have not used this version since I upgraded to 4.0.

After I uninstalled screenblast movie studio I started Vegas Movie Studio 4.0 and received the following error message.

The Audio Plug-in "Sony ExpressFX Equalization" on track #4 was not found or did not load properly.

I also own ACID Music Studio 5.0 and Sound Forge Audio Studio 7.0.

What happened? Did something I need get erased when I removed Screenblast 3.0? What functionality have I lost and how can I get it back?

Thank You.

Doug

I'd start by reinstalling v4.

I do not think that would help. It turned out that the uninstall script for Screenblast Movie Studiop 3.0 removed the registration to several directx audio plugins that I had from earlier sony software purchases. I have all of the "screenblast" software packages and the upgrades to SoundForge Audio Studio and Vegas Movie Studio.

I didn't want to waste to much time on this so I just purchased the "ExpressFX 2" plug-in (again) from sony. This fixed the error message I was receiving -though- I was not to keen on paying for something I had already received with another software packages.

I did a scan on my hard drives and found a directory "Program Files/Sony/Shared Plug-ins/Audio" with several direct X plugins in it. These included:

sfhammer.dll (Sony Wave Hammer)
sfmirror.dll (Sony Acoustic Mirror)
sfppack1.dll (Sony XFX 1 Plug-In Pack)
sfppack2.dll (Sony XFX 2 Plug-In Pack)
sfppack3.dll (Sony XFX 3 Plug-In Pack)
sfxpfx1.dll (Sony ExpressFX 1)
sfxpfx2.dll (Sony ExpressFX 2)
sfxpfx3.dll (Sony ExpressFX 3)
xpvinly.dll (Sony ExpressFX Audio Restoration)

Note: The Express FX package I purchased seperately was a newer version than the one listed above.

I searched around the internet and came up with the following command to re-register the audio plug-ins. Typing the following command will register the Sony ExpressFX 1 plugin listed above:

Regsvr32.exe sfxpfx1.dll

I could not find any direct doccumentation on what exactly this does, but it did add the directX audio plugins into the audio menus for Vegas Movie Studio so I guess I did it right.

I noticed that each of my original plug-ins are an older version than the ones currently sold on the sony site. I could not find any information on what changes occured or if there were any problems using them with the new software.

Does anybody know of problems using these older versions with movie studio 4.0?

Thanks,

Doug

I don't know if it's too late, but I've had a problem with Sony's dlls getting unregistered - you can drag and drop them from Explorer into MS and it'll reregister them.
