external Burner Vegas 5 and DVD A 2.0

Hello,
Please forgive me but I need your help and nobody is in the DVD A forum.
I am going to get an external DVD gang burner, somewhere around 1 to 9.
I found a few with firewire, my rendering system is XP pro and has this connection.
Please give me any advise as to what to ask the sales person, or OHIC stuff questions.

Great idea, but I need something to plug in and work, double Layer is also required.
What is the format that is going to win in the DVD wars?
I have used DVD-r
DVD+r
DVD+RW
now I wish to use DVD DP ROM.

In that case Marty, have a look at the list of DVD Duplicators and Printers from Event DV magazine. There are reviews and articles on a number of different brands.

What is the format that is going to win in the DVD wars?

Your guess is as good as mine or anyone else's. I think the -R format still has a very slight edge but I haven't seen any definitive tests to confirm or deny this.

Ok I am going to use Double Layer HD,24,32. I wish to use this for the rushes, not the final product.
Double Layer makes sense as I need a few bits more room than a standard DVD will allow.
I figure a 1 hour 55 minute HD will take a little more than 8 gigs, with subtitles, directors cut, and 5 language tracks.
I am in the process of rendering the music audio now in 5.1. I am waiting until April to get a Mackie MCU and a burner as I am out of funding until then, but need to do some research before hand.

Mike it is really a problem,
If I burn on my Sony DVD I must use +r, but then some gets a rush and their player pukes. So I send them a -r and they are happy, but does Sony and Phillips not understand we need a simple DL DVD system that read like ROM?
Had a buddy buy a 2300.00 burner the other day for a major push of his film on DVD, he is as comfused as I am.
Seems the best thing is to call Indiania and tell em how many you need.

The ROM Burners can't be beat and DL are much cheaper from them, under $3.00 burned in black dvd folder with 16 color art, shrink wrapped.

At this point in time you will be wasting your money on DL and giving customers discs that may not play on their sets. I have said this 1000 times. Customers do not care if they get two DVDs or one. It is the stubborness of videographers who insist on either cramming too much on a single layer DVD or jumping into a not ready for primetime home brew DL setup that are the problem.

The biggest issue with DL media is that it was assigned a new booktype, so just like when +R first came out, many players don't recognize the booktype and refuse to play the media at all.

The second biggest issue is selecting burning software that correctly inserts the layer break.

If you select a burner that defaults to a booktype of DVD-ROM for DL media, or allows the booktype to be set along with software that correctly sets the layer break, then you should have very good playability. I have a very picky player at home - it won't touch +R media unless the booktype has been set to DVD-ROM - it will quite happily play my DL disks with a DVD-ROM booktype.

Just my experiences of course, but other than the cost, I find DL media correctly created to be quite playable.
