External colour picker

Hello

I think it's practical to use a colour picker / eyedropper when I’m colour correcting video. The problem is: the colour picker in Vegas can’t be open while / at the same time as a colour correction plug-in is open. Therefore: does anyone know where to find a good external / stand alone colour picker? I would prefer a colour picker that could (optionally) calculate the average colour for several pixels / an area of each frame.

Regards,
Joran

I've been using this one...

Simple, but it works great.

More ways to skin a cat...

Add the Gradient Map filter. Use the eye dropper, and read off the values from within vegas. Clicking on one of the buttons switches between HSL and RGB.

With the eyedropper selected, you can drag-select an area to get an average of it.

You may find it helpful to use the button in video preview that lets you preview with FX turned off. It looks like a split circle. REMEMBER TO TURN IT OFF.

You may also find it helpful to preview without FX another way. Click on the clip, and hit 7 or 9 on your numpad. Hit 5 on numpad to escape that mode.

Thanks to both of you.
I’ve found another good colour picker called ColorMania 2.2. I like the idea of adding the Gradient Map filter and deactivating it, just to have access to Vegas’ internal colour picker. In this way I can get the values for an area of each frame.

And on behalf of cats everywhere, I must object....
