ill be travelling next month, and i would like to edit on the go, i installed V7 on a Vaio notebook, and need some more Storage to carry some DV footage, pictures, sound effects, etc.. with me, i am confused wich way to go, Small bus powered externals that do not require a power supply and will fit in my vaio case:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=418521&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

Am afraid ill be limited in the size of media on this HD, some HD have a 4GB limit of Video.. i also won't be able to carry much of my Media along .. and this alone makes me feel like staying home next to my armed Descktop

or , for the same money, i could buy a 320-400 GB drive , and just put it with my luggage with those bulky Power supply they come with...

your experience is much appreciated.. thanks

i min this same dillema, however with laptop HDD' sthe best $ per gb i found was 120gb... running through USB power comes in handy though... BUT.. i ended up going for a USB/Firewire enclosure with a seperate power supplyu cimplay because for the price, i would have paid for teh 2.5, i got a 3.5' at almsot 3 times the capacity.
The enclosure i found was the smalled (aluminium heat spread.. its "blueEye" branding... got teh case for 45 bux and the 300gb drive for a lil under 170AUD...

Works a treat

Id like a USB powered unit, but when u toss up the costs... well.. theres really not much to think about

I use firewire "docks" from www.weibetech.com

I have three that I've used for years. I just attach regular Hard drives as I need them.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty certain that USB powered HD's are only 4000 rpm, and that's a little slow for any kind of editing.

My firewire docks are self powered by small power brick but they are amazingly dependable and I use them for the same purpose with my tower back home.

Thanks Guys, i went with your advice, bought a 500 Seagate Internal HD and a thermaltek enclosure for less than the peice i would pay for a 120GB bus-powered LaCie, thanks again for your input.
