Well, I assume that you have gotten into the preferences and set up the Video Device to be your 1394 DV device. I also assume that you have clicked the "external monitor" button on the Vegas preview window.

If neither of these things have worked and you own a PAL version of the 120, then the DV input may be disabled as prescribed by EU laws.

I'm pretty sure it's not a PAL version...What else can I try?

I suppose your monitor is connected through a firewire device. If you do have a second 1394 device connected, you might have a similar problem like me: the two 1394 devices have the same (internal firewire) ID. Windows can't handle that. This is a bug in Windows XP and will be corrected with SP2 (expected around sept. this year). Imagine this: Microsoft did not think this would ever happen (two 1394 devices, same ID) -> very professional. Instead of Windows XP (which sounds like Xpert) they might consider calling their OS Windows BB (for bloody beginner). There is a fix available from Microsoft but it is not tested: check out Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 329256 and 830987. For the fix on KB 830987 (the problem with the IDs) you will have to call MS. They will email you a download link. Because the fix is not tested, they do not want everybody to install it and run into additional problems... I have a external 1394 harddrive plus a canopus advc 100 connected via 1394. It's a hassle because I have to turn off the ADVC, boot the PC, connect the harddrive first, and then turn on the ADVC. Otherwise my ext. monitor will get no signal. Good luck.

I had a similar problem which turned out to be the on-board Firewire on my ASUS motherboard. Occasionaly the external monitor function would work, but this became less & less frequent, to the point where it simply wouldn't work at all.
I tried with a laptop and it worked fine, so I figured it wasn't either the camera at fault, or the fact I was using an external Firewire drive at the same time.
I installed a PCI Firewire card in my desktop machine and all problems were solved.

Good luck,
