External Monitor and ADVC300

I seem to be having trouble enabling an external monitor with the ADVC300. I feel sure jumper settings are correct. I have some heavy compositing in the first 10seconds. The external monitor plays well for about a minute then crashes Vegas 5.

Has anyone experienced these problems or can anyone give advice on setttings?

Do I need recompress edited frames enabled.

I am firewire out of PC in to ADVC300 and composite into monitor.
best regards everyone, geoff

Well...if it's the ADVC, what happens when you shut off external monitoring? You may need to change the buffer information, but that's not likely.
Your system specs aren't posted, do you have a Promise controller by chance?

I had problems with ADVC300 as a monitor over firewire. I didnt bother with it and just went back to using my camera for previews. The ADVC was intermittent. It would blink in and out losing the signal. So I gave up. I would love to know if others are using it successfully to preview out of Vegas over firewire.

Other than that I love the ADVC300 and have gotten good use out of it converting old VHS-C footage and also as a way to do screen captures. I go out of my Radeon 9800 (Saphire) using the S-video into the ADVC300 then I go into my DV camera via firewire from the ADVC 300. You can easily record off your screen that way and it doesn't slow your system down if you are using camtasia or something else to do captures. I have been fooling around with shots from a PC game and then compositing the kids into the scenes.

Hi,

I have the ADVC 300 and have had great success with it. The one thing I do notice is that I will lose my firewire signal if there is any other firerwire preview device attached and active on my computer. I'm sure it is more of a function of Vegas in that it doesn't know which firewire device to preview to. For example, if I happen to be previewing and then decide to capture some more clips, if I turn my camera on for capture I immediately lose my external preview. Or, the reverse of that, if I have captured and then go into Vegas to edit and turn on external preview it won't work if I have forgotten to turn my camera off.

Other than that....no problems.

Galen,

Many thanks for your response. You have solved the problem for me. It would seem I had another firewire card installed to run an external Maxtor backup drive. As soon as I disconnected that and ran the ADVC300 on its own everything worked ok.
You've saved me loads of time and hassle, thanks again.
