External Monitor Help

I'm not exactly sure I know what I'm talking about but this is what I want to do: I want to be able to preview my work on a 19" LCD TV that I have in my editing room. That little preview screen on the bottom of the Sony Vegas 8 program is just too small for me.

I'm using XP and my video card is a GeForce AGP FX 5500 DDR 128 MB. I connected an s-video cable from the card to the LCD. I have a connection and can see the exact screen as my monitor. I want to see a full screen preview on the TV if possible.

Can I preview full size on the TV? If so what is it I need to do I tried all kinds of settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with that specific video card .. but, in general, you'll need to activate WINDOWS SECONDARY DISPLAY on your video card .. then also within Vegas so that when you click on the little TV screen icon above the preview window it will send a full image to the other monitor.

Thanks I figured it out but not sure how. Now its a matter of quality. Not sure what to do about that yet.

You will never get satisfactory results with an S-Video connection. I suggest you upgrade your video card to one having two outputs, one being an HDMI for your HDTV. They are quite common now and many are budget priced. Even a bargain card now will have 500 MB and have faster throughput.

Are you limited to AGP video? If so, you may find your whole PC needs to be replaced with something faster or editing video may be a frustratingly slow process.

I don't think the OP mentioned an HD TV, so HDMI may not be available.

Yeah, I used to see just a few SD LCD TVs offered for sale a couple of years ago. If it is, I still don't recommend it for preview. Perhaps the OP will tell us what he has.
