external monitor preview

So they told me that to preview on a external monitor (tv) it has to be through Firewire.

My questions are:
1) Do I need to connect the firewire cable to my camera and then another anolog cable to the tv set??? Or is there another way to preview on an external monitor without having to use my camera?

2) Using the firewire, is it possible to preview in good quality in FULL SCREEN? What are the things that contribute for a good or bad previewing quality on an external monitor? cpu? hd? or ram?

1. Yes - firewire to camera/deck/convertor and RCA/SVid to TV

2. Yes - but the higher the quality you pick, the more CPU horsepower is needed and you will be more likely to have reduced framerates to compensate. It works very well on mine on "Preview (Auto)"
