( NEWBIE )
Hi all, I just purchased an external monitor ( Gateway - FPD2185W TFT LCD Monitor)
Having problems getting the resolution set properly on my laptop and the the external monitor.
Any help would be great, thanks, Jim.
Will the graphics card in the laptop support two monitors simultaneously? If it's an integrated card then there's a good chance it won't.
If the card is supposed to support two monitors independently, then you'll need to set up the properties of the graphics card to operate each display separately from the other. I run two monitors on my desktop production computer. I'm working with an nVidia GPU and in the display configuration settings, I've got several choices. One is to have both operate as one large display, one is to clone the two displays and one is to operate them independently but be able to span across. nVidia calls this DualView.
Check your Control Panel. There may be something there for your GPU settings. If it's not in the Control Panel then there should be an app. somewhere on the computer to adjust the GPU settings. If the GPU can support two monitors independently that's where you'll make the change.
Another thing to be sure of is that the GPU supports the native resolution of your new display. If it doesn't, then no amount of futzing around is going to make it look right.
Now that I got this far, I need someone to help me with the settings so that the external monitor shows the video ( Full Screen ) and my laptop screen shows the regular screen with the control board ect...
Any help on this would be great.
Thanks,
Jim.
Break the preview screen away from the rest of the items. Drag it over to your secondary monitor. Click on the little "monitor" icon at the top of the preview screen and the preview should jump to full screen.
Actually if you want to make it full screen you shouldn't drag it to the other monitor. Leave it where it is. Clicking the preview button takes care of moving it for you. There's a setting under Options / Preferences / Preview Device where you can pick "Windows secondary display".
If you drag the preview window over to the second screen first then you'll lose site of all the controls in the window when you click the full screen switch, and then you'll be stuck because you won't be able to go back.
Just checking the basics ... in Windows' Display Properties / Settings, do you have the option "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" checked? Do you see two displays listed there?
Hi, thank you again.
Since the the last time, thats where I went , yes there are two displays listed there but, when I tryed to extend my windows onto the monitor I get a blue error screen right away..
