External vs Internal Drives

I'm going to by a DVD burner. Should I get an internal or external version?

Also, should I go with the + or - version, or get the Sony + & - one that they make?

I'm using an IBM computer with a 500mhz processor, 320 meg RAM, 13 gig internal HD and an external 80 gig HD, Windows 98SE.

Everything works OK but I was thinking about buying a new faster system in the future(renders seem to take a long time on my current machine), if a faster processor would help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated !

Pete

I don't think there's a "right" or a "wrong" answer to either question. It appears DVD-R/DVD-RW media is more readily available than the +R/+RW versions. I just bought the new Sony DRU510A and the DVD-R discs play fine in my cheap Zenith DVB211 DVD player. I'm having trouble recording DVD-RW media though. Haven't tried +R/+RW media yet. I bought the Sony because I don't know which recording format will "win".

Internal drives are cheaper than external drives, so if cost is an issue go with the internal version of a product.
