EXTREMELY Frustrated!!!! I beg-HELP!!

Please, if you have time, read this whole message so that I know you understand my goal here.

One thing that I think it probably something that has simply not ever clicked for me when I'm doing several separate photo montage videos in Vegas 5 is HOW to somehow separate the picturres that I HAVE already used, from the pictures that HAVE NOT been used already in a previous project, so that I don't re-use the same picture twise.

I know I can use View | Edit Details to show me each item on the timeline, but I don't see how that will allow me to then grab all used medai and then move it to a different location, or grab all UN-USED media and add that to a new project. Is there no easy way to do this??!!!! This is SO incredibly time consuming to do one by one!

I hope I'm being clear with what I'm trying to do. If not, let's say for example, that I have 3 different songs/montages that I'm putting together. I throw some items up on the times line from my media pull that has all off the available pictures. I only use 30 for example of the 70 available. I know I can use "Clean Media Pool", but how does that allow me know which ones are used, and which ones aren't. I would think there is a simple way to do this in Vegas and I'm just not getting it. It's driving me crazy though.

Is there anyone out there that can help me with this problem that I've struggled with for 3 years with VEGAS???!! I know I must not being doing something right, either my work-flow is inherantly incorrect, or I'm not using the correct tools in vegas or both.

Thanks tons in advance. -Rick

See what you think about this:
I do lots of sports highlights videos dealing with hundreds of clips. Up until this year's football video I had always discovered that I had used a few clips twice no matter how hard I tried not to. The following way assures me I can't use the same clip twice:
I take the whole season's (rough edited) clips and all of the music I want to use into the media pool of a new veg. I drag a song/instrumental piece onto the time line, I name the veg with the song/piece title. After I'm finished and I build and render (and save the veg again in case it needs further editing) I go to the detailed view of my media pool. Everything that has been used (has a number beside it) I hold down ctrl, select them and then delete from the media pool. Then I delete all tracks, markers etc and pull my next song/piece onto the timeline, rename and begin again.
If anyone has a more efficient way please enlighten us.

That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about!!!! Perfect solution. I knew there was an easy way.

Bless you, and anyone who looks like you, Randy. I'll but my xanax bottle away now. :)

Rickbman,
UltimateS has a slick "identify unused media" tool in the Audit area. You can download a free tral copy from here: http://www.vasst.com/ultimate.htm . There's also lots of scripts that automate functions on the VASST site here:

For photo montages I do this in the file system. I’ll make a directory for a project and preview all my pictures in Windows Explorer either in Thumbnails view or Filmstrip view. Then I move the ones I want to use into a separate folder. This is how I organize all my photo montage projects. Then in Vegas, I run Ultimate S Photo Montage, point it at the folder and in a few seconds I’m done. The files I don’t use are left in the main folder to be used on other projects.
