Do the following;

On your Video Preview window.

See the fourth Icon from the left? (Black circle in a box)

Click it.

Da Daaaa!

Now the explanation.

You have clicked the "split screen view" Icon on the preview monitor. This allows you to see the before and after of an FX on a clp. Additionally (and this is why you see a small rectangle) is that you have marked a box on the preview window that determins which portion of the video monitor shows the "before" view. Maybe you did this by accident sometime.

Liam, perhaps you will need to explain, " . .. you have marked a box on the preview window" . .yeah? ;)

Grazie, I believe what Liam is referring to is the drop down box on the right of the Split Screen View icon that has "FX bypassed, clipboard, select left half, select right half, select all" options.
yeah?
yeah!! :-)

Hey guys!

Thanks for the explanation. That was it. I haven't had time to explore all of Vegas 5's attributes, and that was one of them. I think I (or my daughter who is learning this also...she finds keyframes highly annoying) must have hit it by mistake. Pretty neat feature though, once you know what it's for!!

Thanks again!

ok ok ok . . .. I'll bite .. .

I/we can actually "draw" a tiny rectangle OR any size of four sided shape on the Preview window . . Liam didn't point this out . . this is evidenced by Tim's, "I have a small rectangle near the center of the video" . .I/we can't get a small rectangle OR 4 sided shape on the Preview Window through the drop down window . .WE can activate this option with the drop down menu - BUT to get a small rectangle or 4 sided shape I/we need to DRAW on this shape directly on the Preview Window . . it doesn't happen by itself - yes? . . rs170a I did read Tim's original post .. yes? Or did I read it incorrectly ?

Best regards,

Grazie

Just playing around with it a little. After I clicked on "Select Left Half" the little rectangle went away. By doing a pan/crop, shrinking the image, then selecting the "Copy to Clipboard," I can get something close to what I had, but not exactly. I don't remember what I did to get the rectangle originally. One of those mysteries of computerdom.
