Hold the mouse pointer over the top left corner of the clip on timeline and it will change into a quarter-circle icon with a horizontal double-headed arrow. Hold down the left mouse button and drag to the right. This will create a fade-in at the beginning of the clip. Do the same thing at the end of the clip, but dragging to the left, to create a fade-out.

Hi,
Does this procedure still apply for fade in and out with white?
As a recent Pinnacle 9 convert, I'm a new Vegas user so I find your advice very helpful.
Thanks,
Phong

White will be slightly different. You can only automatically fade to black. However, you can crossfade to another clip. Under Text & Backdrops / Solid Color, you can choose white and drag it to the timeline. Overlap this "white" event with the end of the video clip and it will then crossfade to/from white, or whatever other color you may choose.
