Are you using inserting a Fade to Color envelope (right-click a track header, choose Insert/Remove Envelopes > Fade to Color) or just fading the event itself? The track fade colors pertain to the Fade to Color envelope.

Also, note that the setting on the Video preferences tab is just the default. You can adjust this on a track-by-track basis by right-clicking a track header and choosing Fade Colors > Top or Bottom.

Yes, I am using the envelope. I did it globally through the preferences, but I'll go back and try to do it for a single track and see if that works.

I gave up and made a work-around by creating some media of the color I needed and used opacity to create teh fades. It works for what I needed but I'm now curious why I couldn't get the other to work.

Thanks, Rob.

Are you certain you're using a Fade to Colour Envelope?

farss -- Yes. I'm reasonable certain.

bstro -- Thanks. I didnt' know you could do it just for the track line. I found that one would work, but still can't get it to do it for the entire project.

what the -- haven't tried it yet, but will.

Thanks all.

still can't get it to do it for the entire project.

The colors are entirely on a per-track basis. When you insert a track, Vegas simply looks up what you have in Options > Preferences and assigns those colors to the new track. So, if you've already got tracks in your project and then you change the colors in Options > Preferences, it will only affect any tracks you add after that. The tracks you've already got will use the colors already assigned to them.

Depending on exactly what you're trying to do, you could get rid of all the individual track Fade to Color envelopes and add one to the master video bus track (View > Video Bus Track). That lets you control the fade colors for the final output of the entire project.

Ahhhh. Rob, thank you. I never would have figured that out, but it makes sense now. There is a lot of little things I've yet to figure out here!

Thanks,
