fade to color envelope acts diiferent in HD ???

I am editing two-camera HDV from the Canon HV30. I put the video on two video tracks in V8, created SD proxies using Gearshift, and shifted to the SD proxies. I put a Fade to Color envelope on the top track, and set alpha channel the bottom color to 0. Then I mark points on the envelope and create fades - I fade to the bottom track by pulling the envelope down, and back to the top track by pulling the envelope up. All works fine, fades back and forth between the two tracks on playback.

I shift gears back to HD. Now the parts of the timeline with the top track pulled down show black instead of transparent. Changing the alpha channel (unlike with SD) has no effect on transparency.

What gives?

Perhaps the problem here stems from your creative use of the fade to color envelope. In theory it should work consistently however why not use a compositing level envelope. After all that's the envelope designed to do a fade to the track below.

I guess "right tool for the right job" applies. I just redid the project using the compositing level envelope and everythng is fine. The thing with the color fade envelope does seem like a bug, though.

Thanks, Bob.
