Failing to capture 16 bit audio

I don't think this is an Vegas Capture issue - but I'm trying to get my head around how capture works anyway.

I normally use a Panasonic NV-GS200 3CCD DV camera connected to a TI OHCI PCMCIA card into my laptop using either a 4-4 or 4-6 Firewire cable, and running Vegas 6.0c.

I've transferred a couple of hours of dv that either was recorded on the Panasonic (including some VHS and Hi8 transfers to the camera) and apart from a couple of dropped frames, not had any problems capturing either sound or picture.

I'm trying to transfer some edited material that was put together a couple of years ago by a friend. It seems that he edited the short programs on a Mac, then transferred the result onto a MiniDV casette.

So far, so good - Tape into Panasonic, fire up Vegas Capture, set my in and out points, and batch capture.

Unfortunately - no sound.
There is sound coming from the Panasonic "speaker" and a little "16" icon - I assume means 16 bit sound - appears on the display, but no audio is being captured.

Tried with one of my (12 bit) tapes - sound and picture coming across fine.

I suspect that the issue is with the camera - although it does not make any sense to me.

Any suggestions?

(I will try a different camera - but I've been through the camera menus and Vegas Capture's menus, and just for good measure, my control panel - can't see anything obvious)

Done several experiments.
Still unable to record the sound over Firewire whilst capturing the video.

Later on the same tape there is some 16-bit audio that was recorded in-camera and that transfers OK, so it looks as though it may be to do with the way the program was constructed on the Mac.

Until I can resolve the issue, I'm having to capture the audio separately using analog - not the best!

Did you ever get an answer to this; vid capture tool plays back both vid and audio fine.......but when the file is in the studio, only video plays back in the preview window.
