farss, Spot FX-1 firewire wont connect to PC

Everything was working fine the first time I connected it up recognized the unit and all went well.
the only thing I have changed was the component output from 1080 to 480 the back again. this was done without the firewire connected.
now I plug it into my firewire card, I hear the window tone, but it does not show up in my computer as a device or do i see it in device manager.
if I open vegas it says the device supports recompression but is unavailable.
If my little dv cam using the same cable it sees it just fine.
I have tried a reboot no luck.
any suggestions? or other support pages I should look at.

Double click the AVC device in Device Manager, tell it to update the driver. I've had to do this with the Z1 a couple times.

tried it Spot , no good still did not work.(actualy it told me that that no better driver could be found.) I also tried uninstalling the device, rebooting then reconnecting the cam up still no go.
I noticed that when I went into the menu, I went to change the output to DV it said, "changes NOT allowed unplug i link cable". Even though the firewirecable IS unplugged. so I switched it to DV out, plugged the firewire back in, and then the computer recognizes it as a DV camera. Vegas captures in Dv format ok.
shut off the cam, unplug cable, turn back on reset to i link conversion "off" turn back on and Pc no longer sees the cam.

Funky,
I guess I'll try the sony support number tomorrow.

EDIT:
Stupid me!!!!!! I opening up Vegas capture utility NOT HD Link. Man what an idiot! today was a loooong day at work, and I was able to shoot some shots on the way home, so I wanted to capture them. Guess I best just go to bed and capture them tomorrow ,without my head in my A**. !

K, then do this, and if this doesn't work, I'll be surprised.
Go to Control Panel/System Devices.
Right click the cam, choose Update Driver. Choose to MANUALLY install it. (Don't search, I will install)
Now, browse to the Sound, Video, Game controllers.
Then browse to Sony. Not the Sony Electronics folder. In there, you'll find a driver called DVHS. Double Click it. It will update. You should see the cam come in then.
One thing to check, is Cineform seeing the cam even though the system might be reporting it not there?

Thanks Spot ,
I was just editing my post when I finished, I saw yours, sorry for the leg work man,
Old habits...... wanna capure? open Vegas Cap. BZZZZZZZ wrong answer!
Not anymore!
BTW: so then when in that mode you cannot use the FX/Z for passthru to a monitor for Vegas preview right?
I'm planing on using another Dv cam anyway for that but just clarifying.

HD link sees it just fine BTW. Captures just fine too.Never looked before to see if it ever was recognized under my computer the first time. Probably never does.
I feel like such a bonehead!

Don't feel like a bonehead, it took me a while to figure out the first time, because with the old Cineform, it didn't have drivers for the Z1. (why should it, it wasn't going to be shipping for 4 months back then.)
Anyway, glad you figured it out.
It's easy to forget you're cap'ing with Cineform rather than Vegas.

For hDV, there is no passthru.
For DV, you can use the cam for passthru. Vegas sees the cam in DV mode just fine.
