Saw this mentioned in another post. I had noticed, but never paid any attention to, this switch and always left it set. What exactly does this do (other than increase encoding times and potentially removing artifacts)?
Then why didn't they call it "Remove Artifacts?" What does fast video resizing have to do with removing artifacts? I'm looking for a little more technical explanation about the process used.
An artifact is a squiggly thing that results from compression software trying to average pixels in a very complicated picture or video.
If you've looked closely at an over-compressed JPEG photo, you'll see them.
Also, if you compress a video too much (like when you try to make a 10 minute video a small enough WMV so someone can watch it over a dial-up connection) you'll get so many artifacts you can hardly see the movie!
