Feature request : Add "Replace Media" in Shortcut menu

Amivideotek wrote on 5/8/2023, 12:58 PM

Would it be possible to add "Replace media" in the "Shortcut menu" that comes up when media are dragged with the right mouse button in the timeline. I found that "Replace media" in this menu is very useful. Many people use "Add to Take" in this menu to replace files while preserving all the settings made such as Effects, Envelope, Pan&Crop, Masks, Properties etc. Now we are actually creating a "Take" where the existing media is unused but still remains in the Project Media list. Sometimes I used "Add as Take" several times for the same video clip, so my "Project Media" list was full of unnecessary files.
Adding In this menu "Replace Media" is almost identical to creating a "Take" but now the existing media is removed again and we only keep the newly added media with the changes from the existing media, And so we keep a clean "Project Media List"

Please consider this request please.

When you "Replace Media" in the Project Media tab, then it completely replaces the media everywhere and, for events that don't start at the beginning, they still will start in the same location (i.e. not the beginning of the clip).

However, how would that be implemented on the event level? "Add as Take" makes sense. Just add the new clip as a new take and start at the beginning of that clip.

"Replace Media" is much different... Are you replacing the media for only that one event? Or for every event that references that media? Will the new event start at the beginning of the clip? Or should it be offset the same amount the original clip was offset? I see "Replace Media" at a Project Media level which is where it's currently located.

Indeed, if a certain media needs to be replaced in the entire project, the "Replace media" in the Project Media remains the best solution.
But "Replace Media" in the Shortcut Menu serves to replace only that one particular event. Usually this happens to me, for example, to add an overlay "Light Leaks" above my video and try it out until I get the best result. Indeed, sometimes I have to adjust the starting position!

Or sometimes I use a videoclip and in the end I don't like it because, for example, the stabilization does not give optimal results or something and I want to replace this only clip, but now all my other settings that I had already placed will be retained.

For me, the replacement clip should also start from the beginning, identical as with "Add as Take"
