Feature Request: Routing Between Busses Explained...

stakeoutstudios wrote on 10/10/2002, 2:20 PM
My one major audio request in terms of routing would be the ability to route multiple busses to one buss. This would help with the way I mix. I.E. from 8 drum tracks, I would route overhead mics (L+R) to BUSS A. Oversnare and Undersnare to BUSS B, Kick to BUSS C, Toms to BUSS D. I can then EQ and compress things together to save time, instead of EQing and compressing top and bottom snare, left and right oveheads, and each tom separately. Also saves on CPU time because less plugins are used; so can use higher quality plugs. Now if I could route BUSSES A, B, C, and D to Buss E, then I could compress and touch up EQ on the whole drum submix, and have even more control. Buss E would then be routed to the master BUSS.

It would make mixing faster, and open up a few more creative possibilities.

Also, it would make mixes more efficient, you could place plugins more strategically, to avoid excessive CPU usage...

anyone get what I'm on about? :oP

Absolutely....but....(Im repeating myself i realise) plugin latency!

fader groups would be a nice addition to this

pipeline: I'm not sure what u mean - I can hold down CTRL or SHIFT (can't remember which) and select multiple busses or faders, and operate them together...

Nice to see some people get me on this buss routing idea :o)
PipelineAudio wrote on 10/10/2002, 4:35 PM
then as soon as you hit a different ffader you loose the whole group
stakeoutstudios wrote on 10/10/2002, 4:46 PM
so you want a keystroke to 'fix' or 'unfix' the group, like you can on a multitrack group in the timeline?

seems like a good idea, would save time!

Jason :o)

the new vegas should be called peterpipelinepuppy in an ideal world. :oP hehe

Arnar:

Peter said plugin latency should not apply to internal buss routing. Why do you think different? not a hack at you, I just don't understand where you're coming from...

Well, if there will be no latency then im happy.

I have been told that there isnt a latency issue on insertss as well but that just isnt true, anyone can verify that.

I have reached the point where im afraid to even use a compressor on the insert and im just talking vocals (its obviously impossible with a part of a drum kit)

Dont know if you are with me here but it just gives me an uneasy feeling when i dont know what kinda delay the plugins are introducing as i havent seen anyone from sf comment on this so it remains a mystery to me this whole latency issue.

Considering the reports of latency, I will make sure we look into this for the next rev of Vegas.

That's good to know. I find it strange that I haven't noticed latency issues. Perhaps this is because I use a more buss orientated form of mixing which makes it less obvious.

I'm gonna do a few experiments and see if I can find any latency issues...
PipelineAudio wrote on 10/11/2002, 3:08 PM
peter, please try and verify the latency, the way I explained as an example, and DONT just take my word for it... I am wondering if I havent just gone insane

my world just isnt making sense anymore...
I mean, look at how rednroll is talking now...
you guys got an RME setup working...
samplitude is making claims on stuff vegas has done for years...
a salseman of HARDWARE is trying to make me change my SOFTWARE...
NOTHING is making any sense to me at the moment...

I am gonna go lie down now
