Just quickly import your media into the project media bins and you will have thumbnails. It is faster than say adding clips to FCP.

My version of Vegas shows video thumbnails (if I understand you correctly).

I don't use the thumb preview, it's annoying. I prefer relevant file names.

But to get thumbnails in the project media you need the change the listing to thumbnail mode.

I got the feeling that Tom's request is to have animated displays rather than a single static frame.

oh. should of mentioned that!

Kelly, wouldn't that just be one more item drawing on the system's resources?

Well, i'm not the one asking for the feature, and i'm not even sure that's what Tom wants. But yes, that would probably be quite a big draw.

One NLE i used ages ago, i think it may have been from ULead, would animate the thumbnails when the mouse pointer moved over them. It was nifty at first, but not very helpful, especially since all it did was start playing from the beginning. Vegas sorta almost has this with the "play media" button in the project media and explorer windows.

Having video thumbnails seems a bit over the top, but how about being able to choose "the poster frame" as in Avid and FCP (it's really a Quicktime feature)?

For each clip where the first frame isn't representative, you just click on one that is and set it to become the thumbnail everywhere.
