Field Orders... 2 little questions

FuTz wrote on 2/11/2004, 8:20 PM

1-I got these horizontal lines in my shots in my preview window. I know they might disapear when I render but how come with just these 2-3 tapes I can *really* notice those when with other shootings I barely notice that?

2-I know people from FCP use this trick: putting same clip on 2 different tracks and inverting field orders on each track to get "full resolution" then they pull down to 24fps.
In Vegas, when we invert field order on the first clip, the second clip always inverses too, according to this first clip we just did so they always end up on the same field order. How come?

Thanks...

The events won't mimic each other if you take care to only select one track. Often, when you duplicate a track, both end up being selected. That's an error. Just deselect one track, and this will work. However, if you set your project to progressive scan mode, you'll get slightly better deinterlacing than if you use the dual track method.
Read my article on converting to 24p in Vegas, it details and discusses this issue. http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/help/kb
That address will be changing in the next week for those who spend a lot of time there.

Great, so I'll deinterlace this way and won't worry about it anymore...

And you know how come I clearly see these horizontal lines on this project in preview window when with all my other projects it's not so obvious?

And what will be this new adress for the Sundance site? Got it already?

Thanks again!

Below is a link to a site with an article I read about when to and when not to deinterlace. Basically it was against it unless for special circumstances, which most of us aren't likely to come across. Give it a look before you commit to anything.
