I am looking for suggestions on the following products to purchase, I want to start using print to tape and using the external monitor.

Firewire. (my pc is a gateway P4 1.2gig)
miniDV video camera (just something to get me started)

I have a small business that I run and do mainly photo montages for special events. My previous work has all been done in PowerPoint, now using VV3, what a breath of fresh air this has been and this forum has been a great resource for learning.

Canon GL2 is an outstanding camera. Pyro's 1394 cards work fine.

I agree with pb.
Pyro 1394 card (look at www.adstech.com) has been flawless for me. Be sure the card you're gonna buy has a ***Texas Instruments*** chip if you go with another brand.
The GL2 looks great. I use a Sony DRS-PD100, wich is kind of a TRV-900 with metal casting. For camera, everything will depend on your needs/budget. Find some internet sites to choose (ZdNet.com for reviews is a great starting point...)

I purchased a Sony-TRV27 from http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ (Sony is still running a $100 rebate on it I think until mid-Jan '03), and Adaptec DuoConnect (Firewire/USB2). The Duo comes with the 4pin-6pin cable which is probably valued at $15+ depending on where you buy it from which works with the sony. Of course, the TRV-27 is more of the consumer/prosumer camera, fine for the hobbiest.

For the external monitor out I like the Canopus ADVC-100.
