Look at the file properties in MediaInfo to see the differences.
The *TS extension is inconsequential.

Probably a much more important question is: can you edit both of them in Vegas? If so, the difference between .mts and .m2ts is probably ignorable.

According to Sony: "There is really no functional difference between MTS and M2TS files. Both are High Definition (HD) files associated with the AVCHD video format. An M2TS file extension can be renamed to an MTS file extension and vice versa.

An AVCHD video copied from a camera to a computer using the drag-and-drop method normally has an MTS file extension. Whereas, AVCHD video imported with Picture Motion Browser, PlayMemories Home™, or other software is typically assigned the M2TS file extension."
