Where do you get your video from?

use DV. it's pretty much lossless in all applications you can apply to it in vegas.

The file is digital video, it is from one of those mini DV discs,
and a Canon Camera.

Thanks!

there's no miniDV discs, just tapes.

Sorry, I meant mini DVD, from a Canon camera.

What do you mean by DV? The Canon records mpeg-2.

Digital Video. It's the format used by cameras that record to MiniDV tape. It's a good format for editing as it's quick to process and there is very little generational loss.

When I import the DV into vegas in its original file version mgeg-2, the image
is very jerky. Is there a file format that I can convert it to to edit, that will not cause
any image loss, but gives me access to all the frames in an even manner. After
I edit can I bring the format back to mpeg-2 without any image loss. Sony says
to use AVI, does this work or is there a better format? Thanks..

that's what I said: use DV. render the mpeg-2 to a NTSC DV file (widescreen if that's what you used) & edit that.
