An Update - uninstalled and re-installed DVDA5 (Build 150) its now saying that 2 of the 6 files are in a format all supported - although all were render from Vagas 11 in exactly the same way and with the same parameters.

I've tried on 2 computers - A new Dell with and i7 processor and 8gb of rame, and my Sony Laptop with a t9600 processor and 4 gb of ram.

Pulling my hair out here !!!

Preview (playback) and encoding ("Render As") are two different codec functions.

Please say that you did not install a codec pack!

But your second post is confusing.. You should not be letting DVDA re-encode your media, you should encode the files correctly in Vegas. When did you get the error? While running Vegas or DVDA? (The error is actually a Windows error).

Are you trying to make a DVD or BluRay disc?

hi - whats a codec pack - is there any one i should use and where do i get it? (why isn't it included with the software !!)

I rendered the vf files i created in vegas home studio 11 as both .m2ts and .ac3 files ..... brought the 6 files in the dvda5 (build 150) to create the menues etc .... then tried to create a dvd.

The first time i tried to burn the DVD it was chugging along nicely till i though it would be better to cancel the burning and out it on to the hard drive which i could burn from later..... after cancelling the burn - i selected PREPARE ... and within 3 secs it said a file was an unsupported format.

When i tried reinstalling the softaware - it would even load 2 of the six files (saying they were not supported formats) ..... and when i tried to progress with the renaining 4 files that is would load .... the picture had gone - sound only.

I'm at my wits ends !!!! Please tell me its something simple !!

Cheers

I am sure it is something simple.
When you go to "prepare", did you give DVDA an empty folder to put the DVD files into?
Are you making a DVD or a Blu-Ray?

I used used the default folder it created in the name of the profect i was burning - tried 3 times now - it created three folders in 'My Discs' .....Wedding 1, 2, 3

and it was a dvd i was making to a dual layer disk - it needed slight compression to fit it in

Well, your workflow is not nominal for DVD since you *are* re-compressing the video in DVDA. A DVD needs an MPEG2 video stream and the AC3 audio stream. Encode ("Render As") the .mpg file using a DVDA template in Vegas. Adjust the average bit rate to get a file size that fits a dual-layer DVD without re-encoding.

Thanks for your replies guys .... I finally decided to download the trial version of DVD Architect Pro 5.2 ...... and surprise surprise ..... this accepted my project, rendered it (13 hours!!) and burned the disk.

The results were great - and niece was chuffed with her wedding video.

I want to purchase this product - but can only find the facility to buy Architect Studio and not Pro! Any suggestions?

DVDA Pro is not sold as a separate product from Vegas Pro.

Sony does offer a competitive upgrade
