File locations

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of getting an external SSD drive mainly to speed up rendering (Vegas Pro 18 build 527).

!) Is there any advantage in having the .exe file on a different drive from the data files?

2).If my .veg files are on the external SSD, will rendering to the same SSD drive be any faster than now or is there a bottleneck somewhere which will slow it down (eg. USB transfer speed or reading the project data files from the internal hd)?

I'm running Windows 10 with a Ryzen 7 2700X processor, 16Gb RAM. The video files are HD 50 fps.

Any advice will be welcome. Many thanks,

Steve.

1. no

2. no

The EXE file and the VEG files aren't actively accessed during a render. What will help speed up the render is if the SOURCE files are on a different drive than the RENDER file.

Essentially you need your media on say an internal drive D: and if possible an internal drive E: for the render files. Can be a problem with laptops. Forget USB drives if you need speed.
