FIle Size Limitations?

What is the file size limitation for importing into Vegas? For instance, if I have an mpeg file that contains 6 hours of video and is rather large, how much of that file would Vegas import? Where is the cut-off?

No reason why Vegas shouldn't import all of it.
I regularly import hour long (or more) DV-AVI files and that's 13 GB or more.

Vegas doesn't really have a size limit. FAT32 is limited to 4GB, though some programs will attempt to write larger MPEG files. If you have one of these cases then Vegas can only read the first 4GB of it because the rest isn't really there, even if you've now got the file on an NTFS drive. NTFS's file limit is somewhere in the high terabyte range.

One the other hand, Vegas is rather picky about file format standards. Lots of software creates non-compliant files, and lots of software is still happy to open non-compliant files. Vegas is not in that category. It could be that your large file has some errors in the format that Vegas doesn't like. Programs like Womble could probably re-write the file with the errors corrected and therefore allow Vegas to open it.

Just a caution, large MPEG files can slow Vegas down to a crawl. Expect to have to spend a long time even moving the cursor around the timeline.

Vegas had written Mpeg2 file sizes slightly larger than 4GB on my W98SE system with a FAT32 partition. Not sure why, but it works fine?

I had Vegas once render a 5.6GB MPEG file under Win98SE. Everything after the 4GB point was non-existant though. Some players reported the file ending at 4GB, others gave read errors trying to play it, and some hard-crashed the whole OS. For kicks i tried copying the file to another folder and it trashed the whole drive. Further experimentation was discouraged after that.

Thanks guys! I'm guessing that my ATI AIW hacked up the file when it reached the 4Gb windows limit. I just need to find where it put the other files. I had it set to record 5 hours of continuous programming. I was thinking vegas had cut off my file, but it was really the ATI AIW that capped it at windows file size limit in my ATI settings.
