File won't play in preview window

Whenever I bring up a new file to preveiw prior to dragging it into the timeline, I want to preview the clip. The preview window remains black and will not play the clip. I can hear the audio, but no picture. Is there a setting or something I am overlooking? VMS HD 10. Thanks

Yah never mind.... I had the "show video monitor" turned on in the Trimmer and the Trimmer was hidden at the moment... Turned it off and preview returned to the preview window... Geeezzzz....

I'm having a similar problem. Video on my timeline won't play in the pre-view window. I only get audio. Only video from the trimmer will play in the pre-view window.

Where do I change the Trimmer setting like you did? I right clicked in the Trimmer, and searched Preferences, but I still couldn't find that setting. Where do I change the setting that will allow video from my timeline to play in the pre-view window?

In the top right corner of the trimmer window you should see a series of icons that control preview modes. Hover the mouse pointer over them and one should popup "Show Video Monitor". On my screen it's the 3rd from the right, but i'm running Vegas Pro so i don't know if they're in the same order for you.

Maybe it's because I'm using vegas movie studio platinum 9. I have "Sort Trimmer History", "Clear Trimmer History","Remove Current Media from Trimmer History","Save Markers/Regions","Open in Audio Editor". Those are my options within the trimmer.

Did I buy out of my league wheh I bought platinum? Everyone just seems to be on pro 9. I just wish I had Pro 9 now. I would be off this issue.
