Film Effect for miniDV

Many videographers would like to give their videos a more film-like look, and even though Vegas has plug-in designed to elp, in my opinion they are still quite feeble (at least, for my needs).

So after a little probing, I believe I have come up with a means of producing a better film-like effect for video. It's not perfect, but it works reasonably well.

Film tends to be sharper/grainier than video, and it has a wider contrast ratio, the the aim is to emulate these properties. I am, for now, glossing over the fact that film is 24fps, whereas video is 25/30fps...

I hope some forum members will find this useful...

First, apply these three video effect IN THIS ORDER:
1. Sony Sharpen
2. Sony Film Effects
3. Sony Brightness and Contrast

Next, tweak each plug-in as follows:
Sony Sharpen: medium
Sony Film Effects: Grain - 0.070; Tint - 0.200; Color - Black; all other settings off/0.000
Sony Brightness and Contrast: Brightness - 0.000; Contrast - 0.15; Contrast Center - 0.50.

Remember, for this to work at it's best, you should have correctly calibrated your camcorder (white balance, exposure, etc) Nevertheless, even if you negelected to do this, the film effect works well.

Good Luck,

Worley
