film effects plugin

I see people in this forum talking about the Film Effects plugin but I don't see where it is described on how to get it to work. I mean "jitter" and "flicker" are action words, yet when I render some footage out there is no animation of scratches, flicker, dust nor jitter. I tried keyframing the "amount", that produced results however the animation I achieved was repetitive at best. None of the preset animate either.

What do I need to do to get this plugin to work??

The user interface on this plug-in is decidedly non-standard. The checkbox "enable particle" is not a global setting for all effects. Instead, you must first choose each effect from the Type listbox (dust, flicker, hair, etc.). Once selected, go back up to the Enable Particles checkbox and either enable or disable this specific effect. Once you've done that, you then need to use the Amount slider to control the degree of effect you want.

The effects are not subtle -- in fact, just the opposite. They are pretty severe and generally a little goes a long way. If you aren't seeing anything, then this is probably the reason.

I added it to a clip, for each item in the drop-down I changed the "amount" underneath the dropdown to something other than zero. Upon playing back the timeline, it varied for me over time without additional keyframes. "Enable Particles" was checked by default for all of the options unless you pick one of the other presets.

Didn't "Film FX" NOT work on one version? I remember being frustrated and was told "it doesn't work in V6 currently."
Clearly that has changed, but if you're using an older version of Vegas, maybe that's a hold-up.

Film effects did exactly as described (no animation) in 6a, but works in 6b and c. Actually haven't tested it in c but it had better work after having been fixed in b!
