filmstrip format (.flm)

I recently tried the lightsaber effect that was posted on chienworks (it turned out pretty good) but I had to use a friends computer to render my original clip as a filmstrip file (.flm) in Premiere so that I could then do the effects in Photoshop. Editing each frame in photoshop was pretty easy with the clip in that format. Why doesn't Vegas have the ability to render as a .flm file? It was a really cool effect and I would like to use it more but I refuse to get Premeire and its a pain to transfer files between my friends and my computer. Any thoughts.

Sonic Foundry used to sell a program called Viscosity that would do this. In fact, Viscosity was a rotoscoping tool as well so you could do the painting within it; no need for a separate photo editing program. Sadly it's been discontinued.

However, since i've seen some of their other discontinued items show up as new functions in other software, i'm hoping that this ability will be reborn in some future version of Vegas.

Viscosity is now available from SONY as part of the Screenblast Suite.

It's called Screenblast Image Editor and sells for $39, which is about $30 less than i paid for it from SonicFoundry ;)

I ended up using Aura DV Paint, which they give away free if you go through a Video Toaster Demo at an authorised reseller. Seems like a pretty solid app, though I have not really taken the time to learn all the features. But you sure can't beat free.
