Final Output to DVD/CD

Help -- 1st time in trying to create a DVD like output using the MPEG option.

You suggest that the MPEG formats allow you to create high-quality, low-bandwidth videos in a format that won't take up a lot of disk space on your hard drive. So, I recently rendered a file in MPEG-2 mode -- file size was 1.2 GB. How do I copy/burn this type of file onto a R/W CD for playing in a DVD player since the file size is so big? Normally, if the file size is under 700 MB, do I just copy the file over to a CD and pop into a DVD player? Or do I somehow use the print-to-tape option in the Capture program?

Also, does increasing/decreasing the bitrate of either audio or video dramatically hurt the quality output but lower the file size?

Basically, I want a very high quality ouput on either a DV tape (which I already have) and a DVD/CD for others to enjoy. The quality on a vhs tape is very poor!

Your best quality, cheapest, most generally compliant bet at this point is to

1) make VHS dubs from the DV tape master, and

2) render using the NTSC Video CD mpeg render template for burning to video CD.

If you need to make true DVDs (rather than VideoCds, which play on almost any computer or DVD player), then you might want to search the forums for more info. Be forewarned it is a complex issue.
