Finalizing DVD?

HELP! I have DVD Architect 1.0. I have successful completed my first DVD burn from a Vegas project which was burned at the 3.9 speed. The DVD playback on the computer is great. However, I cannot play the DVD on either of the other three DVD players. Does the DVD have to be finalized or completed as I have to do with my Philips DVD burner? What am I missing?

You need to first check if your DVD player is compatible with burned DVDs.

Check out the compatitbility chart at: dvdrhelp.com

It's more likely a media compatibility issue. Check the DVD players' ability to utilize the type of media that you've written. Many newer ones will play just about anything thrown at them, but older players may not recognize one or more of the home-burned formats.

My other DVD players play the DVDs that I burn using my Philips DVD recorder. I thought that laser burns were laser burns. Have I been mistakened.

One of my players (Panasonic) is about two years older while the other two (Apexs) are less than a year old.

Commercial DVDs have different reflectivity characteristics than DVD+/-R/RWs. Thus a laser that works on a commercial DVD might not work for a burned DVD. Not all DVD players are equal. Most new players will play everything, but a lot of older ones won't.

Check the dvdrhelp website as previously mentioned.

Thanks to all for your help. I was unsuccessful in finding either of my DVD players on dvdrhelp. I must rely on my DVDR until I learn more about using DVD Architect. Again, thanks.

Don't know if this helps, but yesterday I burnt a DVDA2 project using Nero. I did not put the blank (2 speed) in until the final prompt on burning, and for some reason Nero decided to burn it at 2.4 speed.

Tested on computer DVD drives the disk seems fine, but in stand-alone players it will not even load the menus!

So I re-burnt the same project the same way making sure that Nero recognised the 2X speed, and burnt at that speed, and voila, all is fine - the new one plays on everything.

of course, the first disk could have just been dud media.
