Firewire Capture Problem

I am trying to capture video via firewire on windows xp. My firewire is native, and I think it is the Texas Instruments chipset. When I try to capture with vegas capture it lists dvcam as a source, but when I select it and click capture nothing happens. I have have tried this with the camera playing and with it stopped. Any help would be great. Thanks

Do you have DV Control disabled by chance? Is this Vegas 6 and you're using the internal and not external capture app?
What do you mean "Firewire is native?"
what camera do you have?
