Firewire Capture Problem - No Device Connected

mbadger wrote on 5/3/2003, 11:35 PM
I have a jvc SR-VS20 Deck into an Adaptec 4300 Firewire Card
Running Vegas 4.0 on Win 2000

I can't get the capture to recognize the deck. At the same time in same computer, Avid DV Xpress3.0 will control, record and playback to the JVC Deck.

Anybody have any tips? What's the proper driver to use for the 1394 Camera device for Vegas?

any help greatly appreciated....
Jeff

Hi Jeff. The driver should be "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller", part of Windows.

Not sure what you have tried so far. Under Options/Preferences/Video Device you need to select "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394/DV" before you can communicate with the deck. If this is set OK, try switching the deck off and then on after starting Vegas.

Yep, Win2k sees OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Device.
done the whole combination of on & off, unplugging & Plugging the 1394 cord.
Haven't gotten vegas to recognize that there is a camera attached.

Again, Avid will totally operate fine.

any other ideas?

Hi Jeff. I can only suggest some basic things to try, as I am not a Vegas expert at all.

The 1394 card shows up in Win 2K as the OHCI compliant device, as you have found. You can see this in the Device Manager section of the windows Control Panel. Now, when you switch on your DV deck, it should suddenly appear in the "Imaging Device" section of the device manager. I think Win 2K calls it a 1394 DV Camcorder (or something like that).

So the first question is, when you switch it on, do you see the deck recognised by windows? If this is OK then it is Vegas not seeing the device, and this could be due to the wrong driver installed somewhere. There is a Sonic Foundry knowledge base article related to this at the link below. If you haven't checked this out yet, I suggest you read it through and see if it helps.
