Firewire card - incompatible?

A while back I had asked for help due to dropped frames. I'm wondering now if there could be a firewire card compatibility issue.

System:
Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R (has the firewire card build in)
Processor: Intel i7 quad core
RAM: 16 GIG

Recently I was trying to capture an hour long DV program. I was getting a huge number of dropped frames. I changed to another DV player and imported the entire program. Over 3,300 dropped frames. So I went to a different computer and imported the footage into Canopus without a single dropped frame.

The computer with the Gigabyte motherboard (built in firewire card) will not recognize my Panasonic agDV2000 DV cassette player, it will not recognize a Videonics DV mixer, nor will it recognize the DV output from my MacroSystem editor. I am considering buying a PCIExpress firewire card in the hope that will resolve the issue. I would welcome any comments or advise.

Don't know what firewire card is on your machine, but:
-- Some people have had success loading legacy drivers in Win7
-- When using an addon card, the TI chipset seems to be pretty reliable

Do a search of the Pro forum, and YMMV.

What is YMMV? I am not familiar with the acronym.

Any OHCI Compliant FireWire card will work for capturing video from a miniDV or HDV tape-based camcorder.
