I had 4 different firewire cards in my PC to try and correct an output problem. Guess what, it wasn't the firewire card. It was the bios on the motherboard. (Dell 8200) Upgraded the bios and everything has worked perfect ever since. Have 3 spare fire wire cards now. Good thing they were cheap!

I use an Adaptec combo USB card and it works fine. Search on this forum for many threads on this topic.

In my experience with a few different firewire cards, they all seem to work good. Kind of like Ethernet cards. Most of them just work. Besides, all they are doing is just shuttleing data back and forth.

firefighter: May I ask what BIOS you updated to? I have a stock Dell 8200 (Desktop) and I think the original BIOS is something like version A06?
