I also found out that when I remove just the AUDIO stream, the problem completely goes away. I can watch 3 minutes of smooth 29.97-frame video. When I put the audio back, boom, after couple of seconds, playback freezes, then after 10 seconds of inactivity, it says "Unable to Mix Audio."

Someone help please I'm getting very irritated.

Do you have an IDE or SCSI drive that you can put the media files on for testing purposes?

I have noticed a similar problem when I started using a FW drive. I only noticed that trying to play long DV clips from the timeline, the playback would sometimes freeze after about 30-40 seconds and after pausing for a while (10-15sec) it would start playing again. I did not try pulling out the audio portion or any other tricks. I haven't done much editing since, so I'm not sure if the problem is still there or not. Personally, I think it may have something to do with the IEEE1394 bridge as I have a lot of other problems working with the drive (hot swapping).

SonicEPM: Yes, I put it in the SCSI drive and it was perfect.

After defragmenting my firewire HD using xp defragmenter, everything was perfect, but please look into this issue - i'm a little concerned.

I thought my problem was fixed by the way I connected the 1394 drive, but on occasion, I am still getting these familiar freezes asafb and I are talking about. I have not tried removing the audio files as I cant since I am marking pretty much according to what my subjects are talking about. I have yet to defrag the HD, I may do that right now as long as my data doesnt get lost in some freak accident after the defrag. lol.
